Harper Lee, Author of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ Dies at 89

It is reported via Hank Conner, a nephew of Harper Lee’s, that she died in her sleep at the Meadows, an assisted living facility.

“Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ’em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. “Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy.” ~ To Kill a Mockingbird

‘The People vs. O.J. Simpson,’ Captivates the Nation Once Again

As a person who grew up in the 90s and watched the O.J. Simpson Murder trial play out in real time, watched every single trial day on CourtTV, watched in anticipation when A.C. drove O.J. around in that infamous white Bronco chase, watched the verdict be served on TV- watching the new FX Series, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson,” is indeed still fascinating.

I wouldn’t say “obsessed” with the case, but I was enthralled. Watching a trail play out sparked my interest in law and criminal trials. I was a CourtTV addict from then on; still am.

Even though this new TV series isn’t a documentary, and they have certainly taken liberties, even flubbed a few facts, there’s still something captivating about this case and about this show. Honestly it takes a little bit to get used to seeing Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson. He doesn’t exactly look or sound like him, although sometimes in his movements with a little imagination, you can catch a glimmer of the “Juice.” Despite that, the casting in this series is great, Billy Magnussen makes a great Kato Kaelin, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran is spot on, Sarah Paulson nails Marcia Clark, and I love Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden.

I almost hate to admit, but when he was first charged, I rooted for O.J. I didn’t want him to be guilty. A lot of us did, a lot of us cheered when he was found not guilty and set free. Looking back, and knowing what we know now, that seems insane. The arsenal of evidence presented against him makes his guilt undeniable, but it felt different at the time, somehow we were all convinced he was set up. That he couldn’t have done it. How did that happen? The power of celebrity? The racial tensions at the time?

At any rate- after one episode, I love the show. I can’t wait to see where they take it from here.

The Proof is in the Pudding

OMFG people are actually defending Bill Cosby.

This booking photograph released by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office shows Bill Cosby, who was arrested and charged Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in district court in Elkins Park, Pa., with aggravated indecent assault.

Cosby’s Mugshot

It’s bound to happen. There are two sides to every story. I mean, even I rooted for OJ in the 90’s.

Except for in this case it’s there’s his story where he ADMITTED he gave these women pills and had sex with their drugged up lifeless limp bodies, who also didn’t say no in so many words. I mean, they didn’t have the ability to reciprocate, but hey, they were too paralyzed to say no or stop. And then there’s her story, and her story, and her story, and her story, and her story, and her story, and her story (X55) about how this is his thing.

And yet I’ve seen so many folks say “oh, what’s the point of prosecuting him after all this time- he’s an almost 80 year old man for God’s sake- what’s it matter now?”

I really am jut curious as to why we don’t care about rape that much?

Ask any 80 year old rape survivor if it still matters? If their story still has reason to be told. Ask them what they woke up thinking abut every morning of their lives, why they paused at every corner they turned and what violently haunted their nightmares every night of their life? Ask them what’s the point of rehashing the story after all this time? Or if there was a statute of limitations to the embarrassment and they pain they endured.

Is it because you in your mind imagined this fictional character to be a fun dad while he entertained you in your living room for an hour a week during your childhood? That you don’t want your imaginary characters to come crashing down as basically horrific people? Boo hoo.

And even though this case is just days away from it’s statute of limitations, the victim actually did not wait until the 11th hour to attempt to bring forth charges. This case is only being prosecuted now because the previous DA declined to charge Cosby in 2005 when the victim first told police that Cosby violated her.

In Cosby’s previous deposition he said he gave Andrea Constand (the accuser) three half-pills of Benadryl for stress, telling her only that they were her “friends.” He said he fondled Constand, taking her silence as a green light.

“I don’t hear her say anything. And I don’t feel her say anything. And so I continue and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection. I am not stopped,”

Cosby testified. He said Constand was not upset when she left.

In fact we know from these documents that were unsealed Earlier this year, Cosby testified that he obtained Quaaludes in the 1970s to give to multiple women. Though he claims he never gave them drugs without their knowledge and said he had used the now-banned sedative “the same as a person would say, ‘Have a drink.'”

Bill Cosby arrives at court to face a felony charge of aggravated indecent assault Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in Elkins Park, Pa.

If you know anything about the complexities of reporting rapes and how hard it is for the victim to get a conviction, not to mention how they get dragged through the mud just for speaking up- then you’d know why so many kept silent for so many years. How they were probably told to shut up, or they’d never win, how DAs told them no, how fans would harass and disbelieve them, then it’s no wonder why so many kept silent. Until that is they didn’t. How a little spark gave them the courage.

I don’t care how long it’s been or if you hobble to the stand with a cane or not, even in the very end of the twilight of his deceitful life, if found guilty, Bill Cosby, or anyone else need to pay for their crimes.

We can all breath a sigh of relief as Kim and Kayne name their baby

When Kim Kardashian announced the arrival of her baby boy, the Internet had a total spasm that she didn’t mention what they named him. Most speculated that they were obviously going to give him a directional name- somehow every one thought Easton would be his name (personally I was thinking that was way too peasant for the Wests).

Fear not America after two days of  anticipation and speculation, Kim has finally released the little Yeazy’s name..

drum roll please…
