U.S. Appeals Court Upholds Restrictive Texas Abortion Law

aboCertainly a blow for abortion rights advocates, today a U.S. appeals court upheld the main provisions of a restrictive Texas abortion law including one provision that requires clinics to have certain hospital-grade facilities, a regulatory obstacle that was designed to shut down abortion providers.

Under the “ambulatory surgical center requirement” clinics would have had to meet a set of building standards such as widening halls and having facilities for certain surgeries.

While Abortion opponents welcomed the ruling, abortion rights advocates say such requirements are unnecessary, especially when an abortion is medically induced.
